A horrific fire incident at Akyempim in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region has left seven members of a family dead — five children and two adults. The blaze, which erupted in the early hours of Saturday, November 1, 2025, is believed to have been deliberately set by the husband of one of the victims, who later took his own life.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), their team arrived at the scene within 16 minutes after receiving the emergency call. Despite their swift response, the victims were trapped inside the burning building and could not be rescued.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspected arsonist locked the bedroom door from the outside before setting it ablaze. His lifeless body was later found in a nearby bush, confirming suspicions that he died by suicide after committing the act.

The charred remains of the victims have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation, while the GNFS continues to probe the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
In a statement, the GNFS expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to prioritize safety and vigilance at all times. The Service reiterated its dedication to saving lives, protecting property, and responding swiftly to all fire emergencies.
