Kukurantumi: Ghana Police Shuts Down Station after Violent Youth Attack

The Ghana Police Service has closed the Kukurantumi Police Station in the Eastern Region and withdrawn all personnel after it was attacked by angry youths on Sunday, September 21.

The unrest erupted following the death of a suspect, Bright Kena, known as D-ball, who was in police custody for unlawful entry and theft. The suspect was receiving treatment at the Kukurantumi Community Hospital before his death.

According to a statement from Supt. George Peprah Mills of the Public Affairs Unit in the Eastern Region, the youth stormed the police station and barracks, throwing stones, clubs, and other weapons, and attempted to set the building on fire. Reinforcements were deployed to control the situation and restore calm.

“Video footages of the attack on the police station are being reviewed and the perpetrators will be identified, arrested and brought to justice”, the statement concluded.
