Collaborate with MP or face sanctions: Local Gov’t Committee to Anloga District Assembly

Chairperson of Parliament’s Local Government and Rural Development Committee, Hon. Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, has issued stern warning to officials of the Anloga District Assembly, urging them to improve their performance and strengthen collaboration with their Member of Parliament.

Speaking at a public sitting of the Committee on Wednesday September 17, Hon. Sawyerr expressed disappointment over what she described as poor coordination and weak leadership in the district. She cautioned that the Assembly could not run effectively without the involvement of its legislator.

“You cannot run that district without your Member of Parliament. There are so many complaints about your district—so many. If it is not attitudinal, then you have to adjust,” she stressed.

The Committee chair further questioned the District Chief Executive (DCE) on why she had not properly engaged the MP, Hon. Richard Kwami Sefe, despite claiming to be in contact with him. “Why would you speak to him and not tell him you are coming to meet us? Do you have a problem with him?” Hon. Sawyerr pressed.

She reminded the district leadership that the President’s support in releasing funds is intended to strengthen development, not to create dependency or discord.

“Now the President is giving you so much money that you don’t have any problem waiting on the MP. But every advice he gives or every push he does can support the district,” she explained.

Hon. Sawyerr also cautioned the officials against ignoring concerns from residents, warning that the Committee would conduct follow-up visits to verify claims of mismanagement. “Things are not what you think they are. So you better sit up,” she told the team.
