Ghana has joined the global condemnation of the unprovoked Israeli airstrike on Qatar, carried out under the pretext of targeting Hamas operatives. The attack caused casualties and significant damage to property in a complex located in central Doha, where the Hamas negotiating team is based.
The Israeli military described the operation as a “precise” strike. According to Israel’s Prime Minister, the airstrike was in response to Hamas gunmen who opened fire in Jerusalem on Monday, killing six people, and as retaliation against the Hamas leadership behind the October 7, 2023 attacks.
The international community, including the United Nations, has denounced the attack. UN Secretary-General António Guterres labeled the strike a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar.”
In a statement, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the airstrike, describing it as “a clear violation of international law and an affront to the sovereignty of the State of Qatar.” The statement also expressed that President John Dramani Mahama stands in solidarity with the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari people during this difficult time.
