A 2024 NPP flag bearer aspirant and a leading Member of the party, Francis Addai-Nimoh, has stressed the need for reconciliation to unite the party ahead of the upcoming 2026 presidential primary.
Addai-Nimoh has noted that the cracks within the NPP have deepened, particularly ahead of the January 31, 2026, exercise to elect a flagbearer.
Mr. Addai-Nimoh has indicated earlier that he will not be contesting for the flag bearer next year, due to several reasons he outlined in a statement he issued to that effect.
Highlighting the concerns he raised in his release in an interview with Sir John on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi, Thursday, August 28, 2025, he called for a united front ahead of the primary.
He emphasised that the reconciliation process must be deliberate and well-rounded.
“Deliberately, it must go beyond the three other contestants and rallying them and taking pictures. However, it should go deeper and meet the grassroots and see how the party can listen to them and address their concerns.”
He also urged the party leaders to reach out to disgruntled members and attempt to bring them back into their fold.
“And even if there is the slightest possibility that they can engage them and see if they can rescind their decision and join the party, they should do it. If they make the effort and it doesn’t work, at least people will know they made the effort and it didn’t work. Because after all, politics is a game of numbers.”
He believes that closing ranks internally is crucial for the NPP to effectively campaign against political opponents outside the party.
