The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has reportedly arrested a car dealer believed to have been supplying cars to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, NPP Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
This was disclosed by the Deputy General Secretary of NPP Haruna Mohammed, during a media briefing earlier today. According to Mr. Mohammed, the individual in question is a known vehicle dealer who has, on multiple occasions, sold cars to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
Accra News Online has gathered the arrest of the car dealer is directly connected to a vehicle Chairman Wontumi was driving during his arrest by EOCO officials. According to sources the vehicle has been flagged as stolen in a foreign country. The arrest of the car dealer is part of the investigations to establish as to whether the NPP regional Chairman only inadvertently bought a stolen property or he was directly involved with the international car stealing syndicate.
Chairman Wontumi has been in EOCO custody for more than four days now for failing to meet his bail conditions of 50 million cedis with sureties.
MP for Abetifi Bryan Acheampong has however stepped in to meet the bail requirements as at last night.
Wontumi however will have to remain in custody until next week to secure his freedom since a member of the legal team of the NPP Gary Nimako has filed a suit at the High Court seeking variation of the bail conditions.
