Afram Plains Police swiftly Arrest Armed robber who Hacked Momo Vendor with Machete in the Head,bolt with Ghc17k

The Donkorkrom District Police Command in the Eastern Region has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery and attempted murder attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Amankwa in the Afram Plains North District.

The suspect, identified as Kofi Kyere, also known as Kofi Junior, was apprehended Thursday morning during an intelligent led police operation.

According to sources, the victim, 26-year-old Opoku Dominic,a mobile money vendor was attacked at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday at his residence after returning home from work.

Reports indicate that the assailant allegedly stormed his room while he was asleep and inflicted multiple machete wounds to his head and shoulder.

The severity of the injuries caused the victim to lose consciousness, leading the suspect to believe he had died.

The suspect allegedly bolted with an amount of GH¢17,000.

Prior to attacking the MoMo vendor, the suspect allegedly made an earlier attempt to rob another resident, Hamzah, a storekeeper in the area.

According to Hamzah’s father, the suspect was wearing a mask during the attempted robbery. However, when Hamzah threatened to throw a stone at him, the suspect reportedly removed the mask and fled the scene.

Following a tip-off, a police patrol team tracked and arrested Kofi Junior at Appiabra at about 2:00 a.m.

He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, the victim, Opoku Dominic is receiving treatment at the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom and is reported to be in critical condition.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
