Ghana’s High Commis sion to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has won the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary, defying pre-election projections by research firm Global Info Analytics.
According to final provisional results from the primary, the former NDC National Organiser, polled 431 votes, narrowly defeating Hajia Amina Adam, who secured 399 votes. The margin of victory was 32 votes.
The outcome contrasts sharply with a Global Info Analytics poll conducted ahead of the election, which had predicted a clear victory for Hajia Amina Adam, the widow of the late Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure.
The other contenders recorded significantly lower votes, with Mohammed Ramne obtaining 88 votes, Dr Yakubu Azimdow polling 45 votes, while Najib Sani managed one vote.
Baba Jamal’s victory marks a major political comeback and positions him as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East in the upcoming general election, subject to formal ratification by the party.
