Air Tanzania Lands in Accra with Water Cannon Salute

Air Tanzania’s inaugural flight to Accra was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute at Kotoka International Airport, marking the official launch of the airline’s service to Ghana.

The celebration, attended by senior officials from both Ghana and Tanzania, including Transport Ministers Joseph Bukari Nikpe and Prof. Makame Mbarawa, highlighted the growing air connectivity between East and West Africa.

The new Dar es Salaam–Lagos–Accra route, operated three times weekly, positions Air Tanzania as the 26th international carrier to serve Ghana’s primary aviation hub.

Speaking at the event, the officials emphasized the route’s potential to boost trade, tourism, and economic integration across the region, while providing more travel options for business and leisure passengers.

Transport Minister Nikpe described the event as a “milestone in Ghana’s aviation sector,” noting that it also serves as a symbolic reminder of Ghana’s ongoing efforts to revive its national airline within the next 12 months.

He highlighted that the government’s planned carrier, supported by a dedicated task force, will complement existing international services and strengthen the country’s position as a regional aviation hub.

The ceremony, complete with the iconic water cannon salute, drew attention from aviation enthusiasts, media, and travelers, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrated not just a new flight, but also the broader vision of enhanced regional connectivity in African aviation.
