Six people, including a three-month-old baby, have tragically died following a fire outbreak at Abuakwa Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The fire, which engulfed an apartment, occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Evans Opoku, the Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, reported that the incident was brought to his attention shortly after power was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary outage the previous evening. Firefighters from the Nkawie and Twedie stations responded promptly to contain the blaze.
Unfortunately, the victims were trapped inside the apartment when the fire broke out, leading to their deaths. Police have identified the charred bodies and are coordinating their transfer to the morgue while investigations continue.
