The Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has condemned the recent attempted attack on officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and some journalists in the Ashanti Region.
The victims narrowly escaped death when their vehicle was involved in an accident at Dadwene, near Afari, after they were reportedly chased by armed illegal miners. This marks the second attack in recent weeks on officials engaged in the fight against illegal mining. Last weekend, the Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat came under attack in the Ahafo Region, after some youth were allegedly incited by the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North.
Addressing the media today, the Director of Communications at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, described the development as unfortunate and urged calm as investigations continue.
