Newly posted teachers from the 2022 batch of the College of Education, along with university graduates, have staged a protest at Jubilee House demanding payment of salary arrears spanning 13 and 9 months, respectively.
The protest began in the early hours with the teachers marching from Obra Spot at Nkrumah Circle to the Ministry of Education, then to the Ministry of Finance, before finally heading to the presidency to press their demands.
The teachers explained that they resorted to street protests after receiving no response from the Ministry of Education following the expiration of their initial deadline on September 23. They emphasized that the demonstration was their last option after all efforts to resolve their concerns were ignored.
They further stressed that their protest is not only about their survival but also about protecting the quality of education, which is compromised when newly recruited teachers struggle to meet basic needs such as transportation and accommodation.
