The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has indefinitely postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The university, which had scheduled Tuesday, October 13, 2026, for the start of the academic year, announced the postponement in a statement dated Friday, October 9.
According to management, the industrial action has disrupted the effective operation and administration of the institution, necessitating the decision to defer the reopening.
The statement, signed by Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, on behalf of the Registrar, urged students, parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to take note of the change.
Management did not announce a new reopening date, indicating that further communication would be issued once a revised schedule had been determined.
The university also expressed regret over the inconvenience the postponement might cause and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.
