“Ghana Jollof” tiktok probe: court remands senior nurse for two weeks.

A 40-year-old senior nursing officer, Salomey Awity Baffoe, has been remanded into custody for two weeks by the Adenta Circuit Court 1 in connection with investigations into the anonymous TikTok account, Ghana Jollof.

The account has attracted public attention for its criticism of government officials.

Baffoe, a mother of three from Hansua in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region, was arrested on September 13 after three individuals who identified themselves as National Security operatives reportedly arrived at her residence at about 11:30 p.m. and took her away.

Her family has questioned the circumstances of the arrest, saying they initially struggled to establish where she had been taken.

According to her brother, Antwi Francis, the individuals did not produce an arrest warrant or explain the grounds for taking Baffoe into custody.

He said they only informed the family that they were taking her to the regional command.

The family’s account further indicates that Baffoe’s mother later received a phone call from a man who identified himself as being associated with the Jema BNI and alleged that her daughter was the person behind the “Ghana Jollof” account.

Baffoe’s lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has questioned the basis for her continued detention.

According to the lawyer, authorities told the court that the individual believed to be behind the “Ghana Jollof” account is currently in the United Kingdom.

He therefore questioned why Baffoe had been remanded in connection with the investigation.

“Because you want to arrest Ghana Jollof, you have remanded her for two weeks. Meanwhile, you told the court that Ghana Jollof is in the UK,” he said.

The court nevertheless ordered that Baffoe remain in custody for two weeks as investigations continue.
