Ghanaian travellers have been granted visa-free access to the Maldives, Zambia and Antigua and Barbuda following the ratification and entry into force of visa waiver agreements between Ghana and the three countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a public notice issued on September 8, 2026, stating that the arrangements apply to eligible Ghanaian holders of ordinary, service and diplomatic passports.
Under the new arrangements, Ghanaian passport holders may stay in the Maldives and Zambia for a maximum of 30 days without a visa, while travellers to Antigua and Barbuda may stay for up to 90 days.
The Ministry said the agreements are intended to facilitate the movement of Ghanaian citizens while strengthening the country’s bilateral relations with the three partner countries.
It nevertheless urged travellers to comply with the immigration requirements of their destination countries.
“Ghanaian passport holders are required to travel with a valid passport and any other documents that may be required by the relevant authorities and must not exceed the stipulated period of stay under the applicable visa waiver arrangement,” the Ministry said.
The visa waiver does not give travellers automatic permission to work, study or reside in the destination countries.
“Travellers intending to undertake employment, study, residence or any other activity for which a permit or specific authorisation is required must obtain the appropriate approval from the relevant authorities,” the notice stated.
The Ministry also advised travellers to check the latest entry, health and other requirements before departure, as such requirements could change.
The development adds three countries to the destinations available to eligible Ghanaian passport holders under visa-free or visa-waiver arrangements.
The visa waiver with Zambia follows an agreement signed during President John Dramani Mahama’s three-day state visit to the country in February 2026. The agreement covered diplomatic, official/service and ordinary passport holders.
Ghana and Antigua and Barbuda also signed a visa waiver agreement in September 2025 covering ordinary, service and diplomatic passports, with the arrangement aimed at facilitating mobility and deepening bilateral ties.
