Telecommunications operators that fail to meet required service quality standards could face sanctions under a new regulatory framework being developed by the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, said the NCA had been directed to develop measures that would allow customers to receive appropriate remediation when telecom operators fail to meet expected standards.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, the Minister said improvements in network quality were no longer optional, describing them as “mandatory and non-negotiable.”
The planned framework is expected to strengthen accountability among telecommunications operators and ensure consumers receive better value and more reliable services.
The NCA is also expected to finalise measures to tackle recurring fibre cuts and establish an Emergency Telecommunications Framework before the end of 2026.
Sam George said government would continue to engage and push telecom operators to improve service delivery and address concerns affecting consumers.
