Parliament is set to probe the US$1.7 billion loss reportedly recorded under the domestic gold purchase programme.
It follows a motion filed by the minority demanding that Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi be summoned to explain the transactions behind the loss.
According to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, who made the announcement on the floor of the house, Parliament’s scrutiny will determine whether the reported US$1.7 billion represents an actual financial loss or a policy cost incurred in implementing the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
The speaker said his office received the minority’s motion on August 21, adding that he intends to admit it for consideration after carefully going through it.
“With the motion they have filed, which was received in my office on the 21st of August, 2026, just three days ago, I have gone through the motion myself and I intend to admit the motion because we have to at least have an end to litigation as to whether it’s a loss or it’s a cost,” he said.
The speaker explained that a probe by the house will bring clarity on the reported figure.
“This House will have the opportunity to go through it. And please, Ghanaians are very intelligent people. They will listen, they will read in between the lines and they will make their decisions,” he added.
