President John Dramani Mahama has paid tribute to Pan-African pioneer Marcus Garvey during his State Visit to Jamaica, honouring the Jamaican national hero’s enduring contribution to the global African liberation movement.
President Mahama laid a floral wreath at the National Heroes Circle in Kingston in memory of Garvey, whose philosophy and advocacy for Black empowerment inspired generations of Africans and people of African descent across the world.
The ceremony formed part of the President’s official engagements in Jamaica and underscored the deep historical and cultural ties between Ghana and the Caribbean nation.
According to the Presidency, the tribute recognised Marcus Garvey’s lasting influence on the Pan-African movement and reaffirmed the shared heritage that continues to strengthen relations between Ghana and Jamaica.
Garvey is widely regarded as one of the most influential champions of African unity and self-determination, with his ideas having inspired Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and many other independence leaders across Africa.
President Mahama’s visit to Jamaica has focused on deepening bilateral cooperation while celebrating the historic bonds forged through the shared legacy of the African diaspora.
