Bawumia’s call for discontinuation of prosecution of NDC Tiktoker legally illogical- Kotoko

Deputy National Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Elikem Kotoko has questioned the legal basis upon which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia requested for the police and the Attorney General to halt the prosecution of an NDC Tiktoker in his name. The NDC Agona West branch organizer Prince Aboagye was arrested over alleged publication of false news against Dr. Bawumia. However, in a statement Dr. Bawumia asked the state to discontinue the case adding he’s forgiven the suspect.

But the deputy NDC National Organizer disagrees. According to Mr. Kotoko, it doesn’t lie in the mouth of Dr. Bawumia to give a greenlight for the prosecution of Prince Aboagye or otherwise.

In a social media post, Mr. Kotoko argued the call by Bawumia is legally illogical. He argued the State initiates prosecutions and not individuals.

“A former Veep seeking to be President can be this ignorant. Not only is that statement itself bereft of any legal logic.
So Bawumia and his advisors do not know that;
1. Prosecutions are not initiated in the name of an individual but the REPUBLIC. How difficult is this, does he not have legal team?
2. Nobody needs you to lodge any complaint. “Reasonable suspicion” is all the CID needs.
We can only hope the attack dogs comprehend this one”
