Adwoa Safo shooting case adjourned to September 23, accused persons granted bail

The Adentan Circuit Court has adjourned the case involving nine persons accused in connection with the shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo injured to September 23, 2026.

The adjournment follows the court’s decision to grant each of the accused persons bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. The sureties are not required to be justified but must complete the necessary bail documentation.

Counsel for the Kristo Asafo Mission, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, confirmed that the accused persons are facing charges of unlawful possession of weapons and involvement in prohibited vigilante activity.

All nine accused persons have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The case is linked to a violent incident that occurred during a gathering involving members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, following a leadership dispute after the death of the group’s founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Those standing trial include Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom.

Prosecutors allege that the shooting occurred during activities connected to a disputed installation process within the religious organisation, resulting in injuries to the former MP.

The court will resume hearing of the matter on September 23 as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
