A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video that allegedly shows him physically assaulting a female student on the school’s campus.
The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, who disclosed the development in a social media post.
According to Mr. Fenyi, the regional education directorate has launched an investigation into the incident and is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the GES headquarters for further action.
The video, which has attracted widespread public attention and condemnation, appears to show the teacher engaging in a physical confrontation with the student. In the footage, the teacher is seen allegedly striking the student multiple times before lifting and throwing her to the ground as bystanders plead with him to stop.
Witnesses in the video can be heard urging the teacher to consider that the victim was a female student and to refrain from using violence. However, the teacher, who appeared visibly upset, reportedly responded by questioning whether the student herself was mindful that she was a lady.
The circumstances that led to the altercation remain unclear, as neither the school authorities nor the Ghana Education Service have publicly disclosed details surrounding the incident.
The case has sparked renewed discussions about student safety, discipline, and professional conduct within Ghana’s educational institutions. Many members of the public have called for accountability and appropriate sanctions should the allegations be substantiated.
Authorities say the outcome of the ongoing investigation will determine any further disciplinary and legal measures to be taken against the teacher.
The Ghana Education Service has assured the public that the matter is being treated with urgency and seriousness.
