Sam George dismisses ‘hoax’ claims after touring active One Million Coders centres in Accra

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has dismissed claims that the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP) is a hoax following a monitoring tour of operational training centres in the Greater Accra Region.

The Minister on Wednesday visited several centres, including Accra College of Education, Gbegbeise JHS, and the Mamprobi Community Information Centre, where training sessions were actively ongoing.

The visit comes amid allegations circulating on social media suggesting that some of the listed training centres under the programme did not exist, including the Accra College of Education site.

Speaking during the tour, Sam George rejected the claims, insisting that the programme is fully operational and already making an impact on participants.

“This programme is real, it is active, and it is delivering impact,” the Minister stated, urging the public to disregard what he described as misinformation surrounding the initiative.

He further reaffirmed government’s commitment to equipping young Ghanaians with practical digital and coding skills as part of the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.

According to the Minister, the One Million Coders Programme remains one of the flagship initiatives aimed at empowering the youth with relevant technological skills to improve employability and innovation in the digital economy.

The monitoring exercise also allowed the Minister and his team to interact with facilitators and trainees to assess progress and challenges at the various centres.
