Parliament has confirmed the detention of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

A statement issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, said parliamentary leadership had taken up the matter and was engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague for further details.

According to the statement, the Speaker of Parliament and leadership of the House are closely monitoring developments surrounding the incident.
No official details have yet been provided regarding the circumstances leading to the MP’s detention.

However, reports circulating in the media claim the legislator travelled from Ghana on Saturday and was allegedly intercepted by security officials upon arrival in Amsterdam before completing immigration procedures.

The development comes amid previous allegations linking the MP to suspected financial crimes and human trafficking-related activities — claims he has consistently denied.

Kwame Ohene Frimpong had earlier dismissed the allegations, insisting some individuals were deliberately attempting to tarnish his reputation despite what he described as his positive contributions.
Parliament says the public will be updated as more information becomes available.
