A driver captured in a viral social media video engaging in dangerous driving on the Kumasi–Accra highway has been convicted by the Ghana Police Service after pleading guilty to multiple traffic offences.
The convict, identified as Agyarko Richard, was arrested following investigations by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) after footage of his reckless driving circulated widely online. He was driving a Toyota Voxy with registration number EN 551-26.
According to police, the accused was charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, causing road obstruction, endangering other road users, and careless and inconsiderate driving, contrary to the Road Traffic Regulations and the Road Traffic Act.
On Thursday, May 8, 2026, Agyarko Richard appeared before the La Motor Court, presided over by Her Worship Adwoa Sakyi Asumadu, where he pleaded guilty to all charges brought against him.
The court subsequently convicted him on his own plea and imposed a fine of 260 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢3,120. In default of payment, he will serve 15 days imprisonment with hard labour. He was also handed an additional two-month prison sentence with hard labour.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to enforcing road traffic laws and ensuring public safety on the country’s roads.
The Service further cautioned motorists against reckless and inconsiderate driving, stressing that such behaviour continues to endanger lives and property.
Authorities urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations and drive responsibly to help reduce road accidents across the country.
