Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a foiled robbery attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Tema Community 5.
The incident occurred on Monday morning at Aba Fosuah Plaza when the suspects, riding on a motorbike, attacked the vendor under the guise of a cash-out transaction. According to police, one of the attackers pulled a pistol and demanded the victim’s bag containing cash, but she resisted, leading to a struggle during which she was shot in the leg.
The suspects fled the scene with the money, but a nearby police patrol team swiftly responded to a distress call and gave chase. The suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers near a junction close to Smart Hotel, prompting the police to return fire. Both suspects were shot during the exchange and later died at the Police Hospital.
Police retrieved a pistol, mobile phones, SIM cards, cash, and other items from the suspects, while the injured vendor is receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition. The Tema Regional Police Command has assured the public of heightened security and urged residents to remain vigilant.
