The High Court in Accra has set aside a defamation suit filed by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin against Goldbod Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sammy Gyamfi, ruling that the action was defective.
The court, presided over by Justice Agyenim Boateng, held that the writ of summons failed to satisfy the special legal requirements for a defamation action to be entertained by the court.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin filed the suit on August 24, 2026, seeking GH¢15 million in general, aggravated and exemplary damages over the alleged defamatory publication.
He also asked the court to order Mr. Gyamfi to issue a full and unqualified retraction and apology, with the same prominence as the original publication.
However, the case was brought to an end after lawyers for Mr. Gyamfi, Seth Anyaaba, and Gideon Abotsi raised a preliminary objection challenging the competency of the action.
The court upheld the objection and set aside the suit on the grounds that it did not meet the required legal standards.
