Accra, Ghana – Joana Quaye, ex-wife of Ghanaian businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye (RNAQ), has received GH₵300,000 and other benefits following the dissolution of their marriage by the Accra High Court. The ruling was delivered on January 20, 2026, bringing to an end a contentious legal battle that initially saw her request GH₵50 million in the divorce settlement.
The court awarded Joana a GH₵300,000 lump sum, one-third ownership of their Dansoman matrimonial home, two vehicles, and GH₵5,000 for the upkeep of their three children. The judge reportedly reduced the financial award to discourage divorces motivated primarily by monetary gain.
Richard Nii Armah Quaye and Joana Quaye, who were high school sweethearts, married in 2011 after dating since 2002. Reports indicate that Joana played a key role in supporting Richard both emotionally and financially as he built his businesses, including Quick Credit (later Bills Microfinance) and Quick Angels. Her lawyers highlighted these contributions, emphasizing her stake in several business ventures.
The divorce followed a series of disputes, including a domestic violence case in 2023, in which Joana alleged that Richard had forcibly removed her belongings from their Dansoman home while she was visiting her parents. The incident contributed to the deterioration of their marriage and subsequent legal proceedings.
The ruling has sparked public debate on social media, with some arguing that Joana was denied her fair share of the wealth accumulated during the marriage, while others claim the judgment reinforces the principle that divorce should not be pursued as a financial strategy.
