President Mahama Directs Release of GH¢1 Billion to Settle Contractor Debts Since 2017

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the Ministry of Finance to release GH¢1 billion to pay contractors owed by the government since 2017. The disbursement is expected to be completed before Christmas.

The directive was made on Sunday, December 21, during the sod-cutting ceremony for the Sunyani–Atronie–Acherensua Road Project in the Bono Region, part of the Big Push infrastructure initiative.

President Mahama emphasised that audits are underway to verify outstanding claims, particularly for certified work done under previous administrations. He urged contractors to promptly submit the necessary documentation to facilitate payment, stating that delays would be due to inactivity on their part.

He also assured that the Big Push program has allocated resources to resume and complete stalled infrastructure projects nationwide.

Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II, welcomed the road project and called for strict supervision to ensure quality workmanship, warning contractors against substandard work.

The President described the road project as a major development boost for the Bono Region and reiterated the government’s commitment to clearing long-standing arrears and reviving abandoned projects across Ghana.
