Parliament approves GH¢357 billion for 2026 government expenditure

Ghana’s Parliament has passed the Appropriation Number 2 Bill, 2025, authorising government to withdraw GHS357 billion from the Consolidated Fund and other public funds to finance expenditure from January 1, 2026.

The allocation covers key areas such as employee compensation, salaries, arrears, and statutory obligations, forming the financial backbone of government operations for the fiscal year.

According to the approved framework, the 2026 budget allocates: GH¢90.7 billion for compensation of employees; GH¢81 billion for wages and salaries: GH¢29.8 billion for arrears settlement

The approval signals parliamentary backing for the government’s economic and administrative commitments heading into 2026.
