E/R National Security Warns Illegal Miners, Chiefs Against Inciting Attacks on NAIMOS Taskforce

The Eastern Regional Secretariat of National Security has cautioned illegal miners and some youth allegedly being incited by financiers and investors against launching attacks on the anti-galamsey taskforce and other allied agencies.

According to the Regional Security Liaison Officer, Francis Annor Dompreh, intelligence gathered by the National Security indicates that certain individuals and communities are planning to resist the operations of the taskforce. He warned that any such attempts will be met with a firm response.

He gave the warning while addressing the media in Koforidua, stating that NAIMOS taskforce has resumed operations in mining areas across the region to clamp down on illegal mining activities however some communities are becoming resistant.

The officer also cautioned traditional leaders who possess firearms under the guise of using them for traditional purposes to exercise restraint, warning that such weapons must not find their way into the hands of the youth to foment trouble.
