The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has vowed to ruthlessly clampdown on illegal miners, a group the Secretariat described as “environmental terrorists” including those fueling the galamsey menace.
Director of Operations, Colonel Dominic Buah, warned that both local and foreign perpetrators, along with their financiers will be treated as enemies of the state in the ongoing battle to safeguard Ghana’s land and water bodies which have been impacted severely by illegal mining activities.
Col. Dominic Buah made these remarks during a high-level dialogue with President Mahama and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on illegal mining at the presidency.
“We’ll be ruthless with them because they are environmental terrorists. The are terrorists and must be treated as such. We have only one Ghana and we need to do everything possible to protect it.”
Col. Buah directly addressed illegal miners and their financiers warning there will be no hiding place for them.
“Your excellency, with your permission i will like to send this warning to illegal miners, their assigns, and financiers that they are the first of prime enemies of the state and they will be dealt with as such. There will be no room for them to escape or to hide. NAIMOS will smoke them out very soon. And be assured that very soon our waters will turn blue and our forests will turn green. We have trained over 400 troops who are under deployment to sensitive areas.”
