Parliament is expected to revoke controversial Legislative Instrument allowing mining in Forest Reserves, (LI) 2462. This was revealed by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, during the Stakeholders engagement on Illegal Mining at the Jubilee House on Friday, October 3, 2025. According to Dr. Ayine the LI after its revocation will be replaced with a new framework when parliament reconvenes on October 14.
Parliament in November 2022 passed L.I 2462 allowing mining in Forest Reserves under the Nana Addo administration to the chagrin of many environmentalists.
“We have prepared an instrument that is LI 2505 in my office, and that will be laid in Parliament on the 14th of October,”.
“The Lands and Natural Resources Minister and I have agreed that on the 14th of October, when Parliament resumes, we will lay that instrument to revoke the famous LI 2462.”
The assurance from Attorney-General comes on the back of incessant pressure from stakeholders for the revocation of the LI. Government has also intensified efforts to tighten its legal framework on illegal mining, which has fueled widespread environmental destruction and public concern.
