The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued an Interpol Red Alert Notice against former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta. The move follows failure by Mr. Ofori-Atta to honor June 2 deadline for him to appear in person at the OSP.
Lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta in a letter to the OSP indicated their client’s inability to turn up as a result of health complications. According to the lawyers Mr. Ofori-Atta is scheduled for a surgery on the 13th of June and thus unable to return to Ghana.
In an address to the media, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng accused the former finance minister of attempts to evade accountability arguing sequence of events make it clear Mr. Ofori-Atta does not intend returning to Ghana anytime soon.
The Special Prosecutor consequently redeclared Ken Ofori-Atta wanted and a fugitive from justice.
