Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has consoled families of the victims of the boat accident in Kete Krachi in the Oti Region. 15 people lost their lives including 11 children when an overloaded canoe they were traveling in capsized. According to Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong one person remains missing. The Ghana Maritime Authority has commenced investigations into the incident. In a post on Facebook, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on behalf of the government expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic boat accident on the Volta Lake near Kete Krachi that has claimed the lives of 15 people, including 11 children.
On behalf of the Government of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the affected community, and all who have been impacted by this tragedy. We stand with you in this moment of grief.” she stated.
The incident is just one of many recorded on the Volta Lake over the years claiming hundreds of lives.
