The campaign team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is demanding immediate sanctions against two New Patriotic Party (NPP) regional chairmen, accusing them of “gross misconduct” that threatens the party’s unity.
A press statement signed by campaign spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng, Esq., references viral social media videos in which Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) speak to manipulations to favor some aspirants in the upcoming internal contest.
Kwarteng in the statement allege the chairmen are “heard alleging manipulation of the NPP’s electoral register and process to favor a particular candidate ahead of the January 2026 Presidential Primaries.” According to him the comments are “a grave violation of the Party’s constitution” that “directly threaten the credibility and unity of the upcoming presidential primaries.”
The statement argues that a mere disavowal from the party’s national leadership is insufficient. “For this reason, it is wholly inadequate for the party leadership to simply dissociate itself from their reckless utterances. It has to be both condemned and sanctioned,” the release asserts.
It highlighted the seniority of the two chairmen, noting they are “members of both the National Executive Committee and the National Council… two of the highest decision making organs of the Party.”
The Agyapong camp therefore “recommend[s] that the NEC and the National Council of the NPP immediately summon the two Regional Chairman before the appropriate disciplinary bodies and processes.”
Ken’s camp warned failure by the national leadership to act will mean complicity in the agenda of the two chairmen.
“failure to act swiftly and decisively will only reinforce the widespread perceptions of bias and lend credibility to the dangerous narrative that there is indeed a calculated orchestration to skew the process in favor of a particular candidate.”
“Team Ken remains resolute in its commitment to a transparent, free, and fair electoral process,” adding that it has “put in place a robust anti-rigging architecture to safeguard the sanctity and integrity of the upcoming primaries.”
