NPP Race: Ken sets up anti-rigging task force ahead of primaries to guard polls

Flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has established an anti-election rigging squad in anticipation of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The initiative, announced amid rising concerns from Agyapong’s supporters over potential electoral malpractice, is intended to bolster transparency and safeguard the integrity of the internal party election.

Multiple opinion polls have consistently positioned Mr. Agyapong as the frontrunner in the upcoming race, significantly raising the stakes as the contest draws nearer. His team believes that ensuring a free and fair process is crucial to reflecting the true will of the delegates.

In recent weeks, several prophets and religious leaders have publicly predicted a decisive victory for Mr. Agyapong—provided the election is conducted fairly. These spiritual endorsements have been accompanied by warnings of possible attempts to manipulate the outcome, further fueling the rationale for the squad’s formation.

Director of Elections for Agyapong’s campaign team, Joojo Rocky Obeng, confirmed the development in a video shared on social media. He emphasized that the squad’s role is strictly legal and preventative in nature.

“We are fully prepared to prevent any attempt at rigging these elections,” Mr. Obeng said, noting that the task force will monitor the process closely and respond swiftly to any signs of irregularities.

The move has sparked widespread debate within NPP circles, with some viewing it as a bold, proactive measure to reinforce electoral integrity. Mr. Agyapong’s camp has reiterated that the squad is not meant to intimidate but to uphold transparency and ensure confidence in the electoral process.

As the primaries approach, all eyes remain on how the party will manage internal tensions and deliver a credible outcome that reflects the democratic values of the NPP.
