A tragic incident has occurred in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region, where an illegal miner believed in his 30s, identified as Kwame Mamud, has drowned in the Pra River at Bimponagya.
According to Kennedy Avornu, the Assembly Member for the area, the community reported the incident three days after it occurred, stating that one of the galamseyers had gone missing after being swept away by the river’s strong currents.
Despite initial search efforts by the community, the body was only recovered after the chiefs performed rituals and poured libation to appease the gods and seek their guidance in finding the deceased.
Unfortunately, by the time the body was found, Kwame Mamud had succumbed to the water.
The deceased was not a resident of Bimponagya but came to the area for galamsey work.
The Assembly Member confirmed that a report has been filed with the police and the fire service, and the body has been taken to the hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
