The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured parents and guardians of candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for Private Candidates that withheld results will be released in the coming days.
This follows growing concerns from parents worried about the impact of withheld results on their children’s placement into Senior High Schools, especially in cases linked to examination infractions.
Over the weekend, WAEC released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2025 private BECE. A total of 1,661 candidates registered for the exams — 858 males and 803 females — which were conducted at 15 centres nationwide.
According to the Council, 33 candidates were absent, while the results of three candidates have been withheld over suspected involvement in examination irregularities.
Speaking on Morning Starr on Starr FM, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, explained the rationale for the early release of results.
“We’ve had a number of people asking when the results will be released, and we worked hard to release them on Saturday to address all challenges candidates may have faced during the processing of their results before placement is done. As we speak, all those due to receive their results have received them and should be placed appropriately in the schools they’ve chosen.”
On the withheld results, Mr. Kapi revealed that investigations have been concluded and final decisions taken.
“By today or tomorrow, we should upload all the results, especially for those whose results were withheld, so they will know their status — whether their results have been cancelled or released — to enable them to proceed with their education,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) says it will investigate reports of malpractice in the 2025 BECE. In a statement, the Service said it will request the full documentary evidence and transcripts for review before launching a full-scale probe. GES added that any official found to have aided or abetted cheating will face severe disciplinary action in line with the law and established regulations.
